This will be a not as long post as my best of list but I frankly still wanted to give you guys a post for this week so here’s a few of the films that I am easily looking the most forward to in this new year (barring any release date changes). There will be some movies that I am eagerly anticipating that will not be mentioned here but I invite you ,when done reading the post to click the link at the end of this post and see my full Letterboxd list of films Im looking forward to. With that said lets get started (this is in no particular order btw)!
Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning. Release date: May 23rd
If you consistently read these post and saw my writing on why I love the opening scene of Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation so much, it should be no secret by now that I have a deep love for this entire franchise. Whether or not this is the very last time we’ll be seeing franchise in the limelight I am more than looking forward to seeing McQuarrie’s 4th go around with this franchise.
Mickey 17 Release date: March 7th
Despite Warner Brothers seemingly extremely stupid ways of making sure we can’t see this movie its safe to say that yes I am very excited to see Director Bong Joon-ho’s first feature after his incredibly beloved and awards showed 2019 film Parasite. After being amazed by parasite the first time I watched it, I was delighted how instantly enamored I was by other films in the director’s filmography that seem to be more akin to what he’s doing here such as Okja, The Host, and Snowpiercer. Can’t wait!
Sinners Release date: April 18th
Ryan Coogler has returned and is entering the horror genre with his latest collaboration with Michael B. Jordan Sinners which based on the trailer seems to promise of type of horror that’s rare in todays climate and hiding elements of what it is truly about. Count me in for whatever is in store here.
Avatar: Fire and Ash Release date: December 19th
Any doubters in James Cameron’s level of filmmaking have been disregarded time and time again with the level of impact that both previous avatar films have had. Count me in on whatever Big Jim has in store next.
28 years later Release date: June 20th
Man oh man, this is right up there with mission impossible for me really. As if the the promise of one of my favorite working directors ,Danny Boyle, coming back to helm the first and last film in this new trilogy wasn’t enough, man what an excellent trailer for this that they released. It was the talk of the town literally all over the internet I was genuinely amazed with how many people were truly excited for this but yeah obviously, I’ll be there opening night.
And those are my top 5! Obviously there’s some I did not mention small or big like James Gunn’s Superman and the exiting possibilities of a director like Timo Tjahjanto helming Nobody 2 but I invite you to take a look at my most anticipated films of 2025 list here. Like always, thank you for reading, I know the year has already started off incredibly rough for people and my hearts go out to my friends in LA with what they’re going through right now but I hope if anything, it gives you at least a little bit of joy to read what im writing. Thank you :). If all goes well the next review/post will be next week on Wednesday with a review of Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man since Im seeing that soon. See you later!
